Capital for AI Education: Knowunity secures 27 million euros for global expansion in the AI learning market!

Berlin – Knowunity, the world's fastest-growing AI learning platform for students, has closed a Series B financing round of 27 million euros.

The lead investor is European VC XAnge, joined by new and existing investors such as Portfolion, Isomer, Project A, Redalpine, and Educapital. Business angels like entrepreneur Verena Pausder and Booking.com founder Arthur Kosten are also backing the AI learning platform.

With this fresh capital, the Berlin-based company plans to expand into new markets – especially in Asia and the U.S. – and to further develop its AI-based learning companion.

Founded in 2020 by then-17-year-old student Benedict Kurz (CEO), along with Gregor Weber (CPO), Lucas Hild (CTO), and Yannik Prigl (Backend), Knowunity follows a clear vision: to provide every student worldwide with access to personalized, high-quality education.

Knowunity wants to democratize education

“We want to democratize education and make it freely accessible to every student in the world, regardless of their social background. Private tutoring, in particular, is often only affordable for high-income families; every student has free access to our platform,” says Kurz. He continues: “AI will turn the entire education system upside down and enable every student to learn in a personalized and more cost-effective way in the future.”

The platform offers millions of learning materials from students for students. Learning is facilitated by a highly personalized AI Companion that individually prepares students for exams, provides learning content, or creates study plans & quizzes.

“Our school system, with one teacher for 30 students, is completely outdated and not suitable for the majority of students. They don’t enjoy learning. Gen Z wants to learn digitally, often bite-sized, and personalized at their own pace. That’s exactly what we offer: students on our platform create entertaining TikTok-style learning content for other students. Super personalized, for all subjects, that’s our USP,” explains Kurz.

20 million users in 15 countries and 380,000 creators

Today, Knowunity has over 20 million users across more than 15 countries, including Germany, France, Poland, Italy, and Mexico.
Around 380,000 students create content on the platform, fueling organic growth.

In Germany, about one in three students already uses the app. In Latin America, Knowunity has reached one in ten students within just a few months. “The rapid growth comes from students sharing the app with each other and on TikTok,” says Kurz.

The app is revolutionizing the entire education system and will, in the future, provide every student with a personal, AI-based learning companion that explains all topics to them and prepares them for their exams.

Kurz: “In 5 years, every student will have an AI companion”

Knowunity’s business model combines a free version for broad user groups with a premium offering and employer branding packages for companies such as Vodafone, Gothaer, and Porsche.
The majority of revenue is generated through its rapidly growing B2C subscription.

“With this new funding, we will continue to scale our AI product globally to build the global AI Companion for students – and, in the long run, replace boring offline tutoring with an audio AI tutor,” Kurz reveals.

With a strong focus on AI technology, community-driven content, and scalable expansion, Knowunity aims to become the world’s leading AI learning companion for over one billion students in the coming years.

Benedict Kurz

In 5 years, every student will have their own AI companion who knows them better than any teacher and provides motivating support – we want to be precisely that companion.
